Emma Ware Obituary

Emma Mae Feaster, second child of Amos and Josie Campbell Feaster, entered this earthly life on March 8, 1934 in Chester County, S. C. and began her eternal rest on August 12, 2023. Emma attended Williams School and was an honor graduate of the Finley High School class of 1951.

Emma professed Christ and was baptized in 1946 at the Gethsemane Baptist Church where she would remain faithful to her Church for the rest of her earthly life. During her years at Gethsemane she was not idle. She served in many capacities, most notably in the Usher’s Ministry for more than sixty years, with forty-five of those years as the Director of Ushers. Other areas where she served were the Musical Choir, as a Deaconess, Sunday School Class #8, the Kitchen Staff, morning Bible Class, and she was the first Cub Scout Den Mother at Gethsemane Baptist Church. It should also be noted that in 2003, Emma initiated the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team at Gethsemane. In the community, she was a 50 year member of the Queen Bathsheba Chapter #7 OES (Order of the Eastern Star), and the AP&B (African Protection & Burial) #11.

Emma’s work history consisted of her employment with Pryor Hospital, Chester County Hospital, twenty-five years at Chester Sportswear until it’s closing, and retirement from F. Schumacher & Co.

On May 8, 1952 at the Probate Judge’s home Emma M. Feaster was united in marriage with Mannie Ware, Jr. who preceded her in death. To this union was born four children. For the next fifty-eight years Emma and Mannie went about creating a home filled with love. Theirs was a home also full of hospitality. It was not uncommon to pass by and see their backyard full of young men playing a game of baseball, or the family gathered in the house and throughout the yard for a holiday dinner. It was always a place where folks always could stop by and enjoy good company and a home cooked meal and more than likely leave with a to-go plate and a piece of Emma’s good ole pound cake.

Left behind to cherish her beautiful memory are her four devoted children, Marvin (Shirley) Ware of Chester, S.C., Jacques (Joyce) Ware of Albany, Ga., Vivian Ware of Chester, S.C., and Charlton (Valerie) Ware of Blythewood, S.C., one granddaughter, Ashley (Rico) Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla., three great- grandsons, Logan, Lennon, and Lenox Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla., one brother James (Naomi) Feaster of Hepzibah, Ga., seven sisters, Elma Frederic of Lancaster, S.C., Madeline Miles, Levada Feaster, and Del Gracia Thompson of Chester, S.C., Carnell (Jelester) Sanders and Reperzelle Ware of Charlotte, N.C. and Laura Frederick of Hepzibah, Ga., two step-sisters Sarah Caldwell and Maggie (Robert) James of Chester, S.C., one brother-in-law, Adolph (Elaine) Ware of Silver Springs, Md., three sisters - in - law, Ada Ware of Durham, N.C., Loretta Chapman of Washington, D.C., and Eunice Stephans of Temple Hills, Md. and numerous special grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates and friends.

The family will receive friends at her home 763 Darby Road in Chester South Carolina. Please keep the Ware family in your prayers.
