Dr. Kenneth E. Myers, Sr. was born on November 16, 1953, to Emma and Clyde Myers, Sr. in Barnwell, SC. After Dr. Myers graduated from Barnwell High School in 1971, he went on to study Economics at Talladega College in Talladega, AL. where he was a recipient of an athletic basketball scholarship. He graduated from Talladega with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

Dr. Myers earned his Master’s in Education at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC. He worked as a registered nurse for Assertive Community Treatment Homeless Program (ACT) with Prisma Healthcare.

Dr. Myers enjoyed a diverse professional career throughout his life. After graduating from Talladega College, he began his career as a police officer with the Columbia City Police Department in Columbia, SC. He served as a Nursing Manager at Bryan Psychiatric Hospital – South Carolina Department of Mental Health in Columbia, SC with over 40 years in the nursing profession. Among his professional accomplishments, he was formerly a Hospital Administrator at the Chesterfield County Hospital in Cheraw, SC. and formerly served as Healthcare Administrator at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. He also was Clinical Supervisor for the SC Department of Corrections Youthful Offender Intensification Program in Columbia, SC.

In education, Dr. Myers was a former teacher and Assistant Principal for the Allendale County School System in Fairfax, SC. He demonstrated a passion for youth and helping others having served as PTA President for CA Johnson High School in Columbia, SC.

In his spare time, Dr. Myers kept himself occupied as a Professor of Pastoral Counseling at the FMI Biblical Studies Seminary. He hosted a radio talk show at WASC 1530 AM in Spartanburg and WAAW 94.7 FM in Aiken, South Carolina. In Spartanburg, he was a school board trustee for Spartanburg School District 7 and was Spartanburg County Democratic Party Executive Committeeman while also serving on the South Carolina Democratic Party Executive Council, which is the state governing board of the South Carolina Democratic party. He served as a board member for Piedmont Community Action, League of Women Voters and was the Vice President of the South Converse Neighborhood Association. In the nonprofit world he was the President of Rural Initiatives Foundation. He was a longtime member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Health, Homeless, and Men of God Ministries. He was also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.

His awards include receiving Prisma Health’s 2020 Martin Luther King Award which recognizes the state employee who best demonstrates commitment to improving cooperation and fostering mutual respect among people of different racial, ethnic, religious, and other backgrounds. He held an Honorary Doctorate of Ministry from FMI Biblical Studies and Seminary.

Aside from all of Dr. Myers’ professional accomplishments, his greatest joy was being the proud father of the four amazing children he shared with his wonderful wife. Family was an important priority to Dr. Myers, and he greatly cherished each of them. Dr. Myers will long be remembered and respected for his love for family, educating children of this generation, and being the voice of the voiceless.

On Sunday, February 5, 2023, in Spartanburg, SC, after a brief illness, Dr. Kenneth E. Myers, Sr. entered eternal rest. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife, The Honorable Rosalyn Henderson Myers; a blended family of four children, Kenneth Myers Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Katherine (Keeonn) Wilson of Columbia, SC, Dr. Katrina (Alex) Mattingly-Carther of Chicago, IL, Monique Mattingly also of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Logan, Channing and Ari Ford-Carther; two sisters: Carol (Bruce) Turpin of Pontiac, MI, and Catherine (Bobby) Geter of Aiken, SC; one brother, Clyde Myers, Jr. of and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
